  • Developing my play "The Wage Gap" at The Actors Studio

I can be kinda a dork when to coms to things. When I read Eugene Ionesco's memoir "Past Present Present Past" I felt I understood his point-of-view on life and stuff. Eugene's biggest play was "Rhinoceros" but that is basically the political world we are living in today, ha; so I wasn't as inspired as I could have been.

But, if you talk Ionesco everyone mentions "The Bald Soprano" or "The Lesson," those are cool, but I think best absurdist takes are with "The Chairs" and "Jack, or The Submission." So, reading all his plays and reading his memoir I can understand how he may think. And with this context I can apply my own absurdist interpretation of current society. I re-furbished and old play of mind and re-worked it into "The Wage Gap."

For me, sometimes people misunderstand the social phenomenon known as the wage gap. It seems that both groups are talking past each other, which compelled me to dramatize the situation.

I was inspired by Sarah Kane so I wanted to do a violent play. This play is about a husband finds out his wife is having an affair with a man from her mysterious past. The play begins with the husband having kidnapped his wife's lover, who wakes up chained to a radiator in a dark room. The husband says he only wants to asks his wife's lover some questions about his wife, and so a cat-and-mouse game begins.

  • I thought it was be a fun idea to take an edgier approach to Aesop's Fables. I experimented with recording my own voice and using a voice program. I put in sound effects to enhance the storytelling experience. It was fun putting everything together. Please click on which ever story you want to hear; they are all less than 2 minutes.
